He caught a mixture of fish from peg four, fishing pellets long at 14.5 m to land a weight of 78lb 8oz.

In second place was Tony Evans (Westwood Lakes) from peg 17 with 68lb 4oz.

Not far behind was Paul Harsley (Westwood Lakes) from peg 18 with 58lb 0oz.

Thursday’s Over 50s Open match saw John Taylor secure top spot on Falcon Lake.

From the 18 anglers braving the cold conditions, John won by almost 20lbs over his nearest rival.
