Stickney A have won the Badminton Men’s Knock Out title, beating their B team.
For the first time in the history of the competition, two teams - both league champions - from the same club were in the final.
The handicapping system saw Stickney B start with a +9 advantage.
After the first four games, the B team had built up an eight-point lead, but games five and six saw the match swing decisively.
In game two, Eddie Paul and Simon Mackinder led Tony Green and Andy Dodes 16–4.
Had they won this game by a large margin the A team might never have recovered, but they went down 21-20.
The B team’s last realistic chance of winning the match came in game seven when Carl and Peter Knights were playing Casper Jonsen and Leigh Dodes. They needed to win this game to give their side a glimmer of hope, but they narrowly lost it, the A team winning by 24 points.
The statistics show that Dodes and Jonsen were the A team’s best pair with +18, closely followed by Shane McGuire and Paul Maxwell on +11.
For the B, Carl and Peter Knights were by far their most successful pair, finishing on +8. Both the other B team pairs finished on minus scores. They were Simon Mackinder and Eddie Paul and Ricky Ridgway and Chris Smith.
