Boston and District AC’s Thomas Johnson was one of the 270 runners to completed the 20k Sea to Summit race on Hong Kong Island.
The race started on the beach at Repulse Bay and finished at the summit of Victoria Peak at a height of 552m.
The course followed mountain trails and paths, including some steep staircases up the hills on the way to the finish.
Just a stone’s throw away from one of the most densely populated areas in the world, the undulating route passed through several of the island’s country parks.
Thomas reported that the peace and tranquillity was astonishing.
He was enthralled by the unique experience of running along sections of the storm surge channels - built into the mountain side to help protect Hong Kong from the typhoons which occur during the summer.
Thomas added: “All in all, it was a great event, which provided some excellent sightseeing opportunities.
“It highlighted how Hong Kong is so much more than an overcrowded metropolis.”
