Boston Amateur Swimming Club has gained its first piece of silverware for the 2014-15 season at the final of the Anglian League.
Looking to retain the trophy it won at last year’s competition, the Boston A team were going into the final as league leaders, with Boston B hoping for a good final night showing at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham.
Of the eight teams in the league, only six teams competed on the night.
It was a slow start for Boston A as they missed out on maximum points in all of the first 10 races.
St Ives, however, got off to a flying start and was six points ahead at this point.
Nine-year-old Joseph Vickers changed things, with a win in the boys 13/under 200m individual medley.
This seemed to kick-start the team and wins soon followed from Lewis Moses (boys’ open 50m fly), Lewis Bontoft (boys’ 15/under 100m freestyle), Becky Pimlott (girls’ 15/under 100m freestyle) and William Pettitt (boys’ 13/under 100m backstroke).
By the end of race 20, Boston had edged just one point ahead of St Ives.
The final 10 individual races of the night saw every Boston A swimmer come away with first places, which meant the team were now 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals St Ives with only the 6x50m freestyle relay left.
Boston B competed well during the evening but only Harley Maddison had race wins, achieving maximum points in all three of her races.
Final placings: 1 Boston A 207, 2 St Ives 200, 3 Thetford 177, 4 Wisbech 152, 5 West Norfolk 146, 6 Boston B 138.
Race wins: Boston A - Joseph Vickers, Lewis Moses (two), Lewis Bontoft, Becky Pimlott, William Pettitt, Lewis McGarry, Kieva Clegg, Sam Macleod. Boston B - Harley Maddison (three).
