Two Boston Tennis Club members received awards from the Lawn Tennis Association on Sunday.

The Sleaford Road club won the Midlands Regional Award for the Club of the Year, whilst David Cheer earnt the Midlands Regional Award for Young Volunteer of the Year and Frank Cammack collected the Midlands Regional Award for Outstanding Achievement.

The cherry on the cake came when it was announced that David had also been named the LTA’s National Young Volunteer of the Year.

He will receive this award at the All England Club during the Wimbledon Tournament later this month.

All three were winners of their respective categories at the Aegon Lincolnshire County Tennis Awards held in March and went on to win the Regional stage of the LTA’s Aegon Awards.

The Midlands Region stretches across the country from Lincolnshire to Shropshire and includes Staffordshire, Hereford and Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.

The presentation was made by the LTA Head of Region Claire Brown at the club.

Boston was the only club in the region to win three awards.

Sunday was also a day of celebration for Great Britain’s Davis Cup victory as club members were able to join former Davis Cup players Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan for a series of tennis masterclasses for all ages and standards.

Danny Sapsford made the third round of Wimbledon in 1999 before losing to eventual winner Pete Sampras, and he also represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup between 1990-1995.

The charity Bright Ideas for Tennis enables these professional players to visit clubs to deliver these classes and enables the clubs to make money in order to provide tennis activity.

Boston Tennis Club was able to enjoy a great day whilst raising funds to support the club’s schools tennis programmes.
