BOSTON Tennis Club’s Henry Beesley, Joe Woolley and Dominic Beesley have all played in the Aegon Winter National Tour finals.
The Aegon Winter National and Regional Tours are the top two levels of winter competition for juniors.
Competing at Roehampton’s National Tennis Centre, Joe reached the semi-finals of the 14 and under tournament, losing out to Derbyshire’s Samuel Ferguson, who was the overall winner.
Fellow under 14 Henry reached the last 16, missing out to Robert Leck from Leicestershire.
Dominic lost in the quarter-finals to the higher-rated Lewis Roskilly from Hertordshire in the under 16s.
Zac McDonnell-Woods and Antony Hulley have won the Wilkinson Cup.
The duo beat fellow finalists Peter Elphick and Michel Chmielik.
The event involves competitors trying to accumulate as many games as possible throughout the day at the Boston club.
The top 16 players at the halfway mark go in to a knockout competition and the bottom half play a consolation event.
Zac, Anthony, Michel Chmielik and Peter Elphick made it through to the final four and, after a close-fought match, Zac and Anthony came through with the better game score.
Junior Madeline Verdegaal has played in the qualifying draws of two British Tour tournaments, at Sheffield and at Corby.
Her best performance was at Sheffield where Madeline narrowly failed to qualify.
Calum McCaig was the winner of the 18 and under boy’s singles at a tournament held at Oadby, Leicestershire, when he beat local player Richard Evans in the final, winning the third set tie–break 10-4.
The Boston A team played the Boston C team in a Boston and District Winter League match.
A strong pairing of James Newton and Richard Longworth for Boston C team won both rubbers, but Zac McDonnell-Woods and Sam Khan won two sets for Boston A team. However Boston C’s Dan Bambridge and Anthony Hulley halved the rubber against A’s Carl Robinson and Ryan Frankish giving the C team the win.
