Mickie Simpson was in speedway action at a Scunthorpe Amateur meeting at the weekend.

After making a few changes to the bike before next weekends British Championship round at Leicester, action got underway for the Wrangle youngster.

Race one saw Mickie, 12, up against Jordan Palin, a top front runner, and after a good start led for two laps before he made a mistake on the heavily watered track and laid it down to lose the lead.

Mickie remounted to finish third.

Race two saw a convincing win over Sam McGurk and race three saw the shock of the day when Mickie made a great start over top rider Harry McGurk, pulling away to win in what was a personal best time around Scunthorpe - 66.03.

Race four was Harry’s revenge, winning with Mickie second.

The fifth race was the big one of the day with Jordan, Harry, Mickie and Sam all together - Mickie settling for fourth.

With Jordan, Harry and Mickie through to the final on countback over Sam, Sam joined them in the A final by winning the B race.

However, the A Final had to be cancelled due to a nasty crash in a previous class, and the meeting was abandoned.

Mickie was awarded third place and he now prepares for this weekend’s British Championship round in Leicester.
