TONY Rennick and Jenny Murphy are the winners of the Silver Spirit Tennis Tournament.
The over 60s tournament was held at Boston Tennis Club last Wednesday.
The tournament had 32 players, each playing six matches of seven games as part of a team of eight players.
There were, however, individual winners for those who won the most games during the day.
Runners-up behind Tony and Jenny were Nicki Lawrence and Cadwell Smythe.
There were four groups in total and it was the yellow group – Jenny McGarel, Michael Bowser, Peter Hamlett, Pearl Wrigley, Lyn Brocklehurst, Nicki Lawrence, Brian Wilkinson and Caldwell Smythe – that turned out as the overall winning group.
The event was the brainchild of organiser Margaret Wright.
On Saturday, the Wilkinson Cup was held for the third year running.
This was another very successful competition open to all ages.
The entry is for up to 32 competitors and in each of the rounds players draw for their partners.
Anthony Hulley seems to have got the luck of the draw as he was one of he winners for the third year running, an impressive feat.
His winning partner was Peter Elphick this year.
The runners-up were Michel Chmielik and Zac McDonnell-Woods.
These four players had come through the semi-finals just beating Jack Morrow, Richard Woods, Helen Motson and Ros Keane to a place in the final.
The winners of the consolation final were Mary Clay and Terry Wilkinson, who beat Sam Felipes and Mary Smura.
The losing semi-finalists were Emma Mastin who narrowly missed out on a place in this final after playing some good tennis, Peter Hamlett, Margaret Wright and Kanya Clarke.
The trophy was presented by organisers Terry Wilkinson and Kay Wilkinson.
Adult coaching groups for beginners or for players who have not played in a while are available at Boston Tennis Club.
A Touch Tennis group intended for older players takes place tomorrow afternoon (3-4pm) and is a gentle introduction to tennis.
