DESPITE all attention being focused on Wimbledon, tennis action has also been taking place closer to home.
Last weekend mini tennis players from Boston Tennis Club were presented with medals for their performance in the Lincolnshire Mini Tennis League played over the winter months. Boston Tennis Club finished as the County Champions.
Playing in this event throughout the winter were Millie Alexander, William Cheer, James Gedney, Amie Hatton, Lucy Hopper, Thomas Hull, Callum McMillan, Harvey Vickers, Matthew Gedney, Paris Royal, Joseph Cannon, Faith Coffey, Daniel Dorey-Rodriguez, Lucas East and Harry Foster.
The under-nine mixed team are the county winners of the Aegon Team Tennis at this age group.
The youngsters were the top team in the south division and played Eastgate who finished first in the north division. It was a good final with Boston winning 12-8. The winning team involved Matthew Gedney, Paris Royal, Thomas Hull and Bradley Worth.
Boston Men narrowly missed out to Eastgate in the Slazenger Lincolnshire Doubles League. The team of Sam Kemp, Lewis Fisher, Richard Cook, James Newton, Callum Simmons and Ray Frankish had several close rubbers but lost out 4-5.
In the Boston and District Mixed League Boston 1 had a 5-4 result over Spalding. The team for Boston 1 was Jenny McGarel, Geoff Presland, Rachel Atkinson, Ray Frankish, Catherine Ellis and Terry Mastin.
Boston 3 – Emily Hawkesworth, Chris Cook, Helen Cook, Ray Frankish, Mary Smura and Owen Jary, beat Billinghay 9-0 in a match closer than suggested by the score.
Boston 4 in the first loss of their season missed out 3-6 to Woodhall.
