There were good wins for Boston Tennis Club’s Second teams in Division Two of the Lincolnshire Slazenger Doubles League.
The Boston Ladies’ Seconds proved too strong for Horncastle and the Boston Men’s Seconds came through a tough encounter to earn victory in a close match against Grimsby Tennis Centre Seconds.
Boston Ladies’ Seconds played away against Horncastle and earned an 8-1 victory.
The team was made up of Catherine Ellis, Emma Mastin, Jenny McGarel, Rachel Gedney, Victoria Beardsley and Rachel Atkinson.
The Men’s Second team went down to the last rubber on court in a tight home match against Grimsby seconds.
The team of Dan Bambridge, Anthony Hulley, Sam Felipes, Calum McCaig, Owen Jary and Geoff Short were level at four rubbers apiece and managed to add the vital last rubber to give the team the 5-4 victory.
The Ladies’ Third team has been progressing nicely in Division Three A of the Lincolnshire League.
However, this week they were defeated for the first time.
The team of Hilary Calvert, Charlotte Priestley, Joan Beale, Jane Hindmarch, Hilary Calvert and Claire Smith missed out on two third-set tie-breaks which left the team trailing 3-6 to Grimsby Tennis Centre.
The Men’s Third team are still searching for a win in Division Two.
The match against Sleaford did not provide them with this elusive result.
Despite good performances from David Cheer and Zach McDonnell-Woods in winning two rubbers, the remainder of the team only added one more and the team missed out 3-6.
The team was Zach McDonnell-Woods, David Cheer, Toby McDonnell-Woods, Richard Woods, Andy Clamp and Daniel Maund.
The Men’s and Ladies’ Fifth teams came unstuck at the hands of Horncastle teams.
The Men’s Fifth - Sev Smura, Andy Clamp, David Makins, Michal Chmielik, Michael Audus and Phil Cosgriff - lost 3-6 in a home encounter with Horncastle Men.
Boston Ladies’ Fifth team played an away match against Horncastle Seconds.
It was close but Sue Burnett, Lucy Hull, Jude Green, Sarah Moysey, Jessica Frankish and Nikki Lawrence lost 4-5.
