Wheelchair basketball ace Charlie eyes play-off success

Wheelchair basketball ace Charlie Bonner is looking for success in the National Junior League play-offs.

The 16-year-old Thomas Middlecott Academy pupil competes foir the Newark Jaguars team.

As well as playing in the National Junior Under 19s League, he is also playing for the Jaguars Second and Third teams in the National Leagues Division Two and Four.

At Junior level, Charlie has helped the team reach the National Junior League Play-off Finals, to be held at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena on April 18.

The Jaguars finished the season at Nottingham last weekend, winning three out of four of their last round of matches, cementing second place in the National Junior League 10’ Hoop Central Division.

Charlie scored two baskets in the win over the Norwich Lowriders, helping the Jaguars to a 43-10 victory.

The Play-off finals see the eight strongest teams from all Three Divisions come together for a knock-out cup competition supported by the Lord’s Taverners.

Charlie is looking to represent the East Midlands again at the National Junior Championships to be held at Worcester University in July.

He will also trial for the Sainsbury’s School Games, England Central Team for the National competition in Manchester in September, which he was a reserve player for last year.
