KIRTON racer Ben Wilson began his pre-season testing with a visit to his local circuit of Cadwell Park, Louth, on Thursday - where he joined his Gearlink Kawasaki British Supersport team mate Jesse Trayler to take part in a private shakedown test.
This was in preparation for their overseas test in March, when they will get ready for the forthcoming season, commencing at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend of April 22-25.
The day was hampered by slow-clearing fog and Wilson was unable to get out on the circuit until lunch time. But once the fog lifted he made the most of the opportunity to get out there and despite the inclement weather conditions posted some fast lap times.
Wilson commented: “Considering the cold and foggy weather we encountered at Cadwell, I am really happy with the way the bike has responded today. This was a good shakedown test that has paved the way for me to put the bike through its paces in a warmer climate ahead of the official BSB tests at Brands Hatch and Snetterton in a few weeks’ time.
“I can’t wait for the new season to start so I can get my championship challenge underway.”
The 29-year-old Lincolnshire ace is relishing the chance to contest two races each round this year. Rule changes to the Supersport class mean there will be two free practice sessions plus one qualifying session at each round ahead of a short race on the Saturday, which will carry full championship points with the fastest lap times setting the grid for the main race on Sunday.
“I am really happy with the new rules,” said Wilson.
“I am a racer so the more time out on track under race conditions the better.
“We go out to Spain during early March and then back to the UK for another short test before the official BSB tests and then its all systems go for the first two races at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend.”
