BEN Wilson says the chance to get his hands on the Motorpoint British Supersport title ‘can’t get there quick enough’.
The Kirton racer is more determined than ever to lift the trophy, after last season’s heartbreak.
Wilson was pipped to the championship in the final race of the year as he crossed the line second, behind rival Alistair Seeley.
The first meeting of the year takes place at Brands Hatch in Kent over the Easter weekend, and Wilson is relishing the thought of racing around the short 1.2-mile Indy circuit, where he took a win and a fourth place in last year’s event, coming away as championship leader with 38 points under his belt.
“I am really looking forward to getting back to race action,” said Wilson.
“The Brands Hatch Indy circuit is one of my favourite venues and I can’t get there quick enough.
“With the races being on the short Indy circuit I realise the need to qualify well to get a good start to my first race, then get my head down and then take it from there.”
And Wilson says that getting off to a flier in the opening two races is vital to his chances.
He added: “It is doubly important to secure a good result in the sprint race as the result sets the grid position for the feature race, and with the Indy circuit being so tight and twisty, a front row start would be a distinct advantage to any rider.”
Once again he is riding for the Kawasaki Motors UK-backed Gearlink Kawasaki team.
After a successful pre-season testing programme, he is confident he can pull off a strong set of results from the opening round of the 2012 competition.
The weekend kicks off with free practice on Good Friday and Saturday, followed by a 40-minute qualifying session on Saturday afternoon to determine grid positions for Sunday’s 18-lap sprint race, which is scheduled to take place at 4.30pm.
The feature race takes place over 26 laps of the Kent circuit on Easter Monday and is due to commence at 3.25pm.
