Only the top eight riders in this year’s championship were given the chance to compete in this one-off final to see who would be crowned British champion.

Wrangle youngster Mickie felt privileged to be asked to take part, but also knew it was going to be an uphill slog in Berwick on Saturday, especially as his new engine was not ready to compete.

Race one saw Mickie, 12, come home in third behind frontrunners Dan Thompson and Jordan Pallin.

In race two he was third again behind Dan and Harry McGurk.

Race three was Mickie’s worst ride, finishing fourth behind Jordan, Harry and Corban Pavitt.

This was followed by his best ride, a second to Jordan.

This meant he didn’t have enough points to make the final, but finished sixth overall.

Mickie’s attention now turns to the final four rounds of the championship, as well as a British Grasstrack final.
