More than 200 fans, former riders and ex-team managers and promoters gathered at the Poachers Country Park Hotel, in Kirton, for a Speedway reunion.

The event, which was so successful it is hoped to become an annual event, was described by organiser Graham Kirtley as ‘absolutely brilliant’.

He said: “I’d like to thank Paul Freiston, the Poachers and Rod Woodhouse for giving their time for free. It was a major, major success.”

“A lot of the riders stayed the night and the next day they were buzzing,” he added.

He said a number of memories and nostalgic stories came out of the night. He added one rider who travelled 5,000 miles to attend said it was ‘far, far better’ than a national veterans’ association event in Coventry.
