Few will be enjoying themselves more than Boston veteran Shaun Stark who will be racing in the Pre-1985 Unlimited Bangers.

“I am looking forward to it,” Stark said about the action, which begins at 5.30pm.

“I’m going to give a Volvo a try this year. I’ve never, ever raced a Volvo and I’ve always fancied racing one.

“Mk2 Granadas are my choice of car but they’re harder to get and they don’t last that long. Volvos are a bit stronger so I’m going to give a Volvo a try.”

“It takes me about three months,” Stark revealed about the process of preparing a car to race.

“I work a lot of hours – I work 12 to 14 hours a day so I don’t get time in the week. But I tend to start three months in advance of when I’m doing a meeting so I’ve got time to build it, plate it, paint it, fix a few bits, swap a few bits, and then make it all nice and shiny and sparkly.”

Stark is well known for his immaculately prepared machinery and will be joined on track by one of his five racing sons, Lloyd.

It was they who encouraged Shaun’s return to racing two years ago, after he originally started at Boston’s long-lost New Hammond Beck Road track.

“One of my sons got cocky and clever and said to me: ‘Right Dad, if you think can still do it, build a car’,” Stark laughed.

“So we exchanged a few words in the workshop and I said: ‘Do you know what, I will.”

Saturday’s event also includes a big entry of Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars – with the added bonus of a charity Ladies’ Race for the formula – plus three-wheeled racing action from Reliant Robins which spend almost as much time on their roofs as on their wheels.

There will be off-track activities and rides to provide further entertainment for children.
