Boston Cricket Club’s Dave Newman says he would love to hit Monty Panesar for six.

A Lashings All Star XI will visit the Mayflower on Friday, offering the public the chance to mingle with some of the sport’s best-loved characters, before they take on a a Boston team in the afternoon.

But Newman says that once the two sides head out of the pavilion, the hosts won’t be starstruck.

“It will be a great occasion, but we’ll bowl as well as we can and bat as well as we can,” he said.

“If chances come our way we’ll try to take them.

“But the main thing is that everyone has a good time and they feel entertained.”

Lashings - featuring Gordon Greenidge, Andrew Gale, Wasim Jaffer and Kirk Edwards - always bat first.

But when Newman takes his turn with the willow he has one ambition.

“I’d love to hit Monty for six, just to say I have,” he added.

Gates open at 11am and the all stars will be in attendance to mingle with the crowds and sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Tickets cost £4 (£3 concessions) and a family of four ticket costs £10.
