Johnson's title bout

The light heavyweight has been promised a shot at a belt by promoter Eddie Hearn when he steps into the ring for a show in Leeds on April 16.

Although the 30-year-old Bostonian is yet to receive confirmation of his opponent, or what title will be up for grabs, he hopes victory could be the platform for him to really push his career on.

“I want to make 2016 the biggest and best year yet,” said Johnson, who won Commonwealth Games gold in 2010.

“It doesn’t matter what title it is. Once you’ve got a title you have to defend it and people will want to take it off you.

“You have to raise your game even more.

“And if you’ve got one title it puts you in a better position to fight for another title and move on that way.”

Johnson - who is unbeaten as a pro, after winning all 13 bouts - has been grafting hard in the gym, despite not fighting since June’s points victory against Tzvetozar Iliev.

And to blow away the cobwebs he will fight Hungarian Bela Juhasz on a Carl Greaves show in Cleethorpes on March 11.

“It’s a chance for me to get rid of any rust, even if I don’t think there will be any as I’ve been training hard,” Johnson added. “He’s had 12 wins and seven by knockout, so it will be a good test for me.”
