Malik makes his mark

Yates & Greenhough Division One

RICHARD Malik showed his worth as he stepped up to Division One of the Boston and District Table Tennis League...

Stickney 4 Penmaen B 6: DIVISION Two player Richard Malik showed that his top ranking is no fluke when he stepped up to beat all three Stickney players in the Yates & Greenhough Division One.

Richard Malik, unbeaten in Division Two so far, stepped up a division when he substituted for Penmaen B in their match against Stickney, and he continued his good run of form, winning his three in style.

Paul Hartnett and Vince Lozynsky both managed to take an end off Richard, but he recovered to win both in four ends.

Scott Sykes also picked up his three, but Neil Snaith had a bad night, losing all three to give Stickney a toe-hold in the match.

The doubles turned out to be the tightest game of the night, Vince and Paul claiming the victory over Scott and Richard after five ends.

Lodgers B 8 Graves Park B 2: TIM Day once again demonstrated why he is ranked number five in the league when he won his three games against visitors Graves Park B, dropping only one set, against Alan Reetham.

Trev Blackbourn also won his three, but was made to work hard for his victories, dropping a set against Dave Graham, and being taken to five sets by Alan.

Mike Freeston and Dave both beat Vic Clements, but this was as good as it got for the Park, Tim and Trev beating Alan and Dave to secure an 8-2 victory.

Graves Park C 6 Wranbgle 4: DAVE Coulson was on top form when Wrangle visited Graves Park C, winning this three – although there were some very tight games.

Against James Quinton, there were three deuce ends in the five needed to decide the winner, while Dave finally beat Mick East 14-12 in the fifth end in their game.

Sam Cooper won one, against Martin Walters, whilst Den Pattrick was unlucky not to force a deciding fifth leg against James, going down 15-13 in the fourth.

The doubles, however, was a straightforward affair, Martin and James beating Sam and Den in three sets.
