Boston Rugby Club coach Willem Jonker wants his Blue and Whites to lay down an early marker.
The newly-promoted side kick off their Midlands 3 East (North) campaign on Saturday with a derby clash against rivals Sleaford (KO 3pm).
And Jonker says it is vital his side show the visitors that the Princess Royal Sports Arena is not a place where you can roll up and get an easy victory, especially when bragging rights are at stake.
“It’s important we get off to a good start,” he told The Standard.
“I went to watch them play the other week. I had a bit of a spying mission to find out where their strengths are.
“We still want to show we’re the best team in the region.
“We want to prove that you can’t come to Boston and get an easy game.”
Jonker’s first two seasons at the Boardsides have coincided with Boston winning back-to-back promotions.
The coach is quick to point out that making it three on the bounce may be a step too far.
He added: “We will know a lot more about what to expect when we’ve seen the results from the first week or two of the season.
“There’s no point making predictions and filling anyone with false hope.”
However, Jonker (pictured) did finish with the line: “But like everyone else, I secretly hope we can take the top spot.”
