Semple has a point to prove at Boston United
Friday 1pm - PILGRIMS new boy Ryan Semple has arrived at York Street with a point to prove.
The former Peterborough United and Lincoln City winger made the switch from Blue Square North strugglers Gainsborough Trinity last week.
The 24-year-old made an instant impact, scoring one and setting up two more as Boston United won 4-1 at Durham City on Saturday, also putting in a good shift as United won 2-1 at Retford in midweek.
However, this was in stark contrast to his last attempt to impress the United crowd.
Semple arrived at Boston on trial at the start of last season, only for then-manager Tommy Taylor to sit him on the bench in a friendly against Mansfield Town, not even bringing him on to the pitch.
"It was a situation that confused me massively," Semple told The Standard.
"I came in and was told I'd play at least a half, but didn't kick a ball and it wasn't ever explained to me why."
"That is in the past but I'd now like to show the fans what I can do.
"To do that I know it's down to me to keep impressing the managers."
Semple hopes to earn a regular place in the starting line-up, including tomorrow's UniBond Challenge Cup semi-final at Division One North side Curzon Ashton.
He admitted to 'packing his bags straight away' when United manager Paul Hurst asked him to make the switch from Trinity, after they got to know one another on a football coaching course.
And in his quest for silverware, Semple suggests success in the Challenge Cup can only help Boston's promotion bid.
Speaking before last night's crunch clash at Retford, he said: "Every game's important.
"Winning games, no matter what competition they're in, can only help your confidence to spiral.
"In different ways this is a really important game."
Midfielder Gareth Davies will be available for United after completing a three-match suspension.
Curzon Ashton currently sit fifth in their division, although they lost their league fixture at bottom club Rossendale United on Saturday, going down 3-1.
