And last Friday, the Boston Standard Sports Awards compere was the recipient of a special award, recognising his years of dedication to sport.

Collecting his Services to Sports Broadcasting, Dalton joked: “This is the only sports award I’ll ever win, so I’ll remember this.”

Dalton also remembered the times he has been roped into turning out for Boston Cricket Club on their sports tours, adding: “I wasn’t any good, so anyone there will think it’s quite strange I’ve won anything for sport.”

Remmebering his years of covering the Pilgrims, he added: “I have loved every minute of it.

“I had some interesting times with Steve Evans. It’s brilliant being that close to the club and they’re doing fantastically under Dennis Greene.

“But I don’t miss the long away matches.”
