Sunday seconds solid in defence

Lincoln and District Sunday League Division One

Heighington 160 all out, Boston Sunday 2nd XI 162-2 - Boston won by eight wickets

BOSTON Sunday 2nd XI hosted Heighington in the Lincoln League Division One.

With Heighington winning the toss, they chose to bat on what looked a very good pitch considering the bad weather we have had.

Opening bowlers, Elleray and Goulder worked hard but could only manage one wicket. Elleray bowling the opening batsman in style.

With the introduction of Epton, Moore, Timby and 14-year-old Tom Appleyard, the pace of the ball proved key as Boston slowed the scoring.

Special mention must go to Tom Appleyard who bowled his 10 overs picking up 3 wickets. Boston dismissed Heighington for 160.

After the interval, Boston set about chasing down 160. Openers Usherwokunze and Baxter were solid in defence and found scoring hard to come by.

With the loss of Usherwokunze, Baxter was joined at the crease by overseas Hegarty. As the bowling changed, Boston found it easier to score runs as Hegarty quickly made 50 before retiring.

That left Baxter and 13 year old Jack Timby to end the innings. Tom Baxter ended 67 not out as he carried his bat throughout the innings.
