Holton-le-Clay 3rds 153-9, Freiston LL 1sts 155-8 - Freiston won by two wickets.

AN ASHOK Kumar-inspired Freiston, Leake and Leverton edged to a vital victory in an even match at Holton-le-Clay.

Freiston started well as Tommy Atkinson had J. Farmery well caught by Michael Burman in the first over, before P. Farmery was caught behind by Stewart Kirtley off the bowling of Anwar Ul Haq.

A counter attack from Hawkins put Freiston temporarily on the back foot, but anther wicket apiece for Atkinson and Ul Haq checked the progress of the hosts before Ollie Booth bowled Hawkins for 28.

A strong sixth-wicket partnership between M. Thompson and Fisher added 68, as the pair gave Freiston the run around.

Fisher was stumped by Kirtley off Ashok Kumar for 31.

Kumar bowled well on a turning pitch to stem the flow of runs before taking the vital wicket of Thompson for 66.

Freiston prevented boundaries in the final overs, restricting Holton-le-Clay to 153 off their 40 overs.

Two early wickets rocked Freiston but a solid partnership between Rob Sexton and Kirtley put Freiston back on track. However, Freiston then lost three quick wickets, including Sexton (26) and Kirtley (18), to leave Freiston on 59-5. Ul Haq tried to hit Freiston out of trouble, managing two sixes before being bowled for 19.

John Goodfellow then joined Kumar, with Kumar striking seven boundaries, as they added 37 to edge Freiston closer to the target.

When Kumar was caught for 41 and Goodfellow was bowled, Holton-le-Clay became favourites.

Needing 20y runs with only two wickets left, Tommy Atkinson and Ollie Booth set about knocking the remaining runs off.

With five needed for victory, Atkinson finished the game by striking a magnificent six over the leg side.
