MATT Ward fell one run short of grabbing a century as Boston CC earned a 54-run victory at Skegness.

Norman Brackley was the man who ruined the Australian’s party, his delivery being caught by Carl Wilson as Ward left the crease on 99.

However, Ward’s stand was enough to help guide Boston to victory as they remain third in the Lincs ECB Premier.

Ward hit his 99 off 120 balls, an innings which included 16 fours.

Josh Newton could not repeat his century heroics of last week, but chipped in with a welcome 54, before also falling victim of Brackley, who claimed four wickets.

Paul Timby (27) and Elliot Wilson (22 not out) added to the final total of 228-6.

In reply, Skegness were bowled out for 174 in the 46th over.

Pete Houghton’s 65 and a 43 from Wade McCall gave the seasiders some false hope, but they could not cope with the Mayflower men’s bowling prowess.

Wilson have swiftly overcome his eye injury and claimed five wickets while Scott Elleray and Tom Baxter claimed two each.
