Ward’s in 77th heaven as Boston Cricket Club defeat Hartsholme

BOSTON Cricket Club earned a five-wicket victory over Hartsholme...

Boston 1sts 135-5 – Boston won by five wickets.

BOSTON Firsts returned to winning ways with a five-wicket victory over Hartsholme.

Boston won the toss and elected to bowl on their Mayflower crease.

And it was a decision that paid off as the home bowlers gave Hartsholme few chances to score runs, eventually bowling their opponents out for 134 in the 45th over.

Scott Elleray took four wickets for the loss of 66 runs, one a caught-and-bowled.

Elliot Wilson claimed three wickets, two lbws and one a catch from captain Paul Timby.

Colin Cheer added a further two wickets, wicketkeeper Matt Ward chipping in with a catch and Tom Baxter also claiming a victim.

Tom Brooks was Hartsholme’s top scorer with 29 runs.

With the bat, Boston needed less than 24 overs to claim victory.

Ward struck 77 not out off 64 balls, his tally including 11 fours and a six.

Jonathan Cheer scored 17 before he was caught by Warren Nel off Martin Shillito.

Henry Rush did the rest of the damage for Hartsholme, bowling Josh Newton (14), Tom Baxter (three), Timby (duck) and Matt Poole (two).

But Wilson added two further runs as he and Ward saw Boston over the finish line.

South Lincs and Border League Division One

Boston 2nds 186-9,

Spalding 1sts 187-6 – Spalding won by four wickets.

BOSTON Seconds are still looking for their first victory in the SLBL Division One, following their four-wicket defeat at Spalding.

After electing to bowl, Spalding saw Boston finish their 45 overs on 186-9.

Peter Moore scored a half century, grabbing 55 before he went lbw by Jack Barratt.

Other notable scores came from Rob Grant (23) and Paul Tetther (22).

Spalding, however, reached their required total in the 44th over, thanks to a 66 not out by Michael Kearns.

Matt Hendry added 35 before being bowled by Tetther, off Michael Troops.

Troops also dismissed two further opponents, with Hamza Minhas (two) and Sean Burns claiming the other wickets in the defeat.

South Lincs and Border League Division Two

Boston 3rds 80, Spalding 2nds 83-5 – Spalding won by five wickets.

BOSTON Thirds suffered a five-wicket defeat at Spalding Seconds.

They managed just 80 runs before being bowled out in the 29th over.

Dave Gilding top-scored with 22 runs while Paul Kelly’s 20 was the only other score into double figures.

Boston also suffered three ducks.

Spalding reached 83-5 after 39 overs, with only Liam Gavaghan (21), Steve Lloyds (17) and Dave Endresbee (16) the only batsmen reaching double figures.

Charlie Ward took three wickets, with Kevin Brooks and Sam Major both taking a dismissal.
