Quest warriors get a kick at Easter Games in Wyberton

Just two months after an appeal for sponsorship to protect the club’s future in bringing through players like 2015 Lincolnshire Young Sportswoman of the Year finalist Megan Featherstone (17), Quest received a financial boost totalling almost £1,160.

Firstly, the club held a successful Easter Games at St Thomas’s Church Hall, near Wyberton, on Easter Saturday.

Dozens of people took part in fitness exercises and a raffle, with prizes donated by various businesses in Boston, as well as meeting Megan, dad and coach Jason Featherstone and fellow coach Michael Reilly.

Jason said: “It was a day when people could do something at Easter and we could try to get people into the club.

“It was a fantastic day, everybody had a lot of fun and a lot of the parents said it was brilliant.

“Six new members have now joined Quest Taekwondo and we raised £558 for new mats that we desperately needed.”

Quest Taekwondo was also helped by shoppers and staff at Tesco in Boston which donated £500 through its Community Champions scheme.

Jason said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Tesco for supporting Quest Taekwondo as their choice of community group for March.

“We’d also like to say thank you to all the shops that donated raffle prizes for the Easter Games, people who bought tickets, made cakes to sell and our helpers.

“The morning was made fantastic by so much hard work put in by all involved.”

Jason is now turning his attention to nursing Megan back to fighting fitness after a ten-month lay-off with a toe ligament injury.

“Megan has started training in Sheffield but it will be a slow process in building her up again after a long time out,” Jason said.

“She’s been thankful for the break and now wants to be the best.”

Standing in Megan’s way is Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones who is in the same 57kg category as the teenager.

Jason said: “Megan’s a bit scared but she’ll come through it and she’ll do some small competitions this year.

“She’s still got a long way to go but Megan has the same aim as everybody else to reach the pinnacle of taekwondo.”
