Classical music aficionados are spoilt for choice over the next two days as some of the world’s finest musicians come to south Lincolnshire.

The extravaganza starts at South Holland Centre, Spalding, when South Korean violinist Soh-Yon Kim joins the European Union Chamber Orchestra and members of the Lincolnshire County Youth Orchestra in concert tonight at 7.30pm.

Works by Grieg, Haydn and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.5, known simply as “Turkish”, will be accompanied by a brand new piece of music composed by Norfolk-based Jane Wells called Two Wings and a Prayer.

Cllr Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for arts development at South Holland District Council, said: “This is quite a coup for the South Holland Centre and, with an orchestra of 20 musicians from many different European countries, this promises to be a very special evening.”

Soh-Yun has played at venues, including the Tel Aviv Opera House, Israel and the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, as well as being chosen as one of the Rising Stars of the Royal College of Music.

Then on Friday, Swineshead Village Hall will host Korean-Australian pianist Vivian Choi in the latest of the Windmill Studio Music Concerts series.

Starting at 7.30pm, Vivian will bring her “extraordinary artistry, musical intelligence and expressive intensity” to Swineshead.

Tickets for tonight’s concert in Spalding are £14, £12 for concessions and £7.50 for under 26s, while tomorrow’s event is Swineshead is £10.
