A couple of thousand people are expected to enjoy the festive atmosphere and fun activities at a Christmas tree festival this weekend.

Freiston Christmas Tree Festival and Yuletide Fayre is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, at St James’ Church.

The festival will be opened by the cast of the Aladdin panto at Blackfriars - including Aladdin himself.

The cast will provide some entertainment by performing sketches to get the festival started. Other entertainment will include performances by school choirs, youth groups and bands, the United Cheer Team and bell ringers.

Visitors can enjoy 25 twinkling themed Christmas trees, decorated by local schools, groups and residents.

There will be more than 25 craft stalls selling a range of festive favourites, crafts, gifts and refreshments, and a free craft workshop to keep children entertained.

Now in its seventh year, the festival is going from strength to strength, attracting more than 2,000 people last year.

The festival will be followed by a series of celebratory events next year when the church marks its 900th anniversary.
