Budding young writers in the Boston area could win £50 by taking part in a short story-writing competition.

Run by Discover Volunteering on behalf of Young Lincolnshire, the contest is divided into three age categories: five-11 years-old (500 words or less), 12-16 (1,000 words or less)and 17-21 (up to 1,500 words).

There is also an illustrated story category where up to three people can contribute. All must be under 21 and living in the borough of Boston. Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including originality, plot and use of language.

Entrants to all categories must write a fictional story in English. All stories must be the work of the entrant.

Stories, including details of the entrant, must be delivered in an A4 envelope marked ‘Short Story Competition’ to Boston Library, Waterstones of Blackfriars Theatre, by noon on July 31.
