OUR resident film expert Gavin Miller previews the latest blockbuster movie releases.
ALAN PARTRIDGE: ALPHA PAPA (15): North Norfolk’s most famous TV/DJ celebrity provides a film which he is calling his love letter to Norwich.
Fingers-crossed on this one, as the original Alan Partridge material provided some of the greatest tear-inducing laughter in British comedy history.
THE LONE RANGER (12A): It’s time for us Brits to make up our mind on how much of a flop Johnny Depp’s big summer blockbuster actually is.
He stars as Tonto in Disney’s big-budget misfire, with little-known Armie Hammer as the legendary eye-masked lawmaker, in this western-adventure from The Pirates of the Caribbean team.
GROWN UPS 2 (12A): Love it or hate it, the first film was a box office success – so Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and co. are back for more comedic mischief. Fingers-crossed though the comedy is at more advanced level than the woeful first film.
PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS (PG): This sequel to the mildly successful The Lightning Thief tries to fill some of the void left by the likes of Harry Potter – as the son of Poseidon and pals journey to the Sea of Monsters to save their homestead.
