Help wanted for Night of Festivals

Night of Festivals
Night of Festivals

An organisation trying to bring art to Boston is looking for people to take part in a festival it is organising in October.

Transported, is bringing Night of Festivals to the town on Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13.

It will include live music, moving images, digital arts, carnival acts, street art and public art.

As part of the event the company is organising workshops for people to be part of the carnival.

○ Mandinga Arts, which creates outdoor performance costumes, floats and processions, are leading a ‘Design and Make’ masterclass that will take place at Blackfriars Arts Centre in Boston at the end of August.

Facilitated by Artistic Director Charles Beauchamp, the Mandinga Master Workshop is aimed primarily at adults with an interest in developing and extending their knowledge and experience in carnival and street theatre arts, some of the major aspects involved in costume design and realisation. The workshop will focus on Mandinga Arts’ creative direction and offer the participants an opportunity to explore various materials and techniques first hand.

The masterclass will take place on Saturday between 10am-4pm and is free of charge for those that live in Boston Borough or South Holland – a fee of £25 applies for applicants who live outside of the region.

To book email TransportedNatalie@litc.org.uk.

○ If you fancy being part of the carnival, there will be a series of small carnival events that will happen in different places leading up to the main site, Central Park.

Transported are looking for volunteer performers and dancers to be a part of them. Organisers say this is a great opportunity to get a taste of public performance and work with Mandinga Arts.

Leading up to the festival volunteers need to attend two weekend workshops on September 28 and 29 and October 5 and 6 at the Assembly Rooms in Boston, where they will work on costume, movement and performance and be allocated their own special carnival costume.

Carnival participants will only be required to attend one session per weekend.

The workshops are free of charge and no previous experience is necessary. There is also the opportunity for one strong performer to animate a giant skeleton puppet as part of the carnival.

○ Musicians based in the Boston Borough and South Holland areas can take part in masterclasses organised by Paraiso School of Samba.

This is an opportunity for musicians to work with Sambaists and to get involved in a new and exciting carnival event.

This event is free to Boston Borough and South Holland residents and £25 to those living further afield.

The masterclasses take place on September 22 and 29 and October 6, in Boston.
