BOSTON borough is to be lit up by the Olympic flame next year, when the iconic symbol of the Games passes through the area on its way to London.
It was confirmed this week that the flame will pass through Boston and Wrangle on June 27, as part of the Grimsby to Lincoln leg of the tour.
Events will be organised to welcome the torch bearers and help people get in the Olympic spirit.
Coun Yvonne Gunter, Boston Borough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure services, said: “It’s fantastic that the Olympic torch will travel through our area. I hope as many people as possible turn out to give them a wonderful Boston welcome.
“This is something really positive for Boston.”
People to carry the torch in this area have been selected and will be announced in February.
Boston MP Mark Simmonds said: “I am delighted that the Olympic torch will be travelling through my constituency. Residents of these towns are privileged to have ringside seats to this historical event. I am proud that our community can play such a vital role in this occasion.”
