The Standard’s resident film expert Gavin Miller previews the latest blockbuster movie releases appearing at cinema’s.
Oblivion (12A): Tom Cruise tries to prove he’s still ‘got it’ outside of the Mission: Impossible franchise, with his latest blockbuster being given a pre-summer launch slot. In this sci-fi adventure – which co-stars Morgan Freeman and former Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko – he stars as veteran soldier Jack Harper, who has been assigned to extract Earth’s remaining resources after a court martial – but an unexpected traveller throws doubts over his mission.
Scary Movie 5 (15): It has surprisingly been seven years since the last sorry entry in the cash-in comedy franchise, with Anna Faris (bar a cameo) being replaced by two people with flailing movie careers of their own. Lindsay ‘jailbird’ Lohan and Charlie ‘bad boy’ Sheen are the film’s main protagonists, as they try and clasp anything Hollywood can throw at them – and will undoubtedly lose their dignity in the process.
