Troops gallop to see War Horse with charity preview opportunity

MEMBERS of the Armed Forces, including some from Coningsby, have been invited to watch Steven Spielberg’s latest film War Horse through two initiatives by the film makers and DreamWorks Pictures.

At the UK premiere in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry on Sunday, the Patrons Their Royal Highnesses’ The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in attendance with the director and the cast.

Six hundred serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families have also been invited to the premiere.

The servicemen and women have been invited from regiments including Royal Air Force Coningsby, RAF Search and Rescue, Household Cavalry, Irish Guards, Scotland Royal Naval Command and Submarines Royal Naval Command.

DreamWorks Pictures is also working with charity Tickets For Troops which was set up to provide free tickets to members of the Armed Forces.

The charity is offering UK military families across the country exclusive screenings of War Horse from Monday.

In partnership with Apollo Cinemas, more than 600 troops and their families will be able to see War Horse in Leamington Spa, Port Talbot, Burnley, Torbay, Fareham and Piccadilly Circus, before the movie goes on general release on January 13.

Nicole Oakley, Marketing Manager for Apollo Cinemas said: “We are thrilled to be able to provide these exclusive screenings for members of our Armed Forces and reward and recognise them for all the great work they do on our behalf.”

Tickets For Troops was set up in 2009 to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events, theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions. Since launching it has been donated over 280,000 tickets and over 100,000 troops have registered on the website.

Chairman of Tickets For Troops Lord Marland said: "We are enormously grateful to Apollo Cinemas and DreamWorks Pictures for their fantastic support for ‘Tickets For Troops’. It makes a real difference to the troops who are doing such an extraordinary job during these difficult times. We are very grateful to DreamWorks for supporting us in this fantastic way.”
