Lincolnshire Youth Jazz and Rock Academy is a group of the best young jazz rock and pop musicians from across Lincolnshire.

Over six rehearsal days at Haven High Academy in Boston the academy, organised by Lee Hextall and Lincolnshire Music Service, form four bands and a jazz orchestra.

For their annual concert this year they decided to present A Tribute to The Gliderdrome and, as Lee says, the ideal place to perform is at the Gliderdrome!

The Academy is made up of musicians from right across Lincolnshire, performing a vast repertoire of musical genres.

This gives them the ideal opportunity to play tributes to the big stars that have appeared at the Gliderdrome in the past, particularly from its ‘golden era’ of the sixties and early seventies when people like Elton John and Tina Turner graced the stage.

Special guest for the evening will be Simon Bates, professor of saxophone for the Royal Marines who often has workshops with the orchestra and has recorded with a wide variety of bands and musicians including Elvis Costello, Jamie Cullum and Lulu. He has performed around the world and is the musical director for Rick Astley and Bette Midler.

The concert takes place on Saturday, March 23. Doors open at 8pm with the concert starting at 9.30pm.

Tickets are available from Haven High, priced at £10 (£8 conc). Call 01205 319510 or e-mail at claire.gration@bwaf.net. Payment can be accepted by credit card at the Academy.
