The next dance at the Gliderdrome is in two weeks time on Thursday, 20 June, when top of the bill will be the Blues Brothers, Jake and Elwood, supported by the Black Rhino Band.
Joliet Jake Blues began life as William Smith-Eccles, a young drummer from a small mining village in the heart of Derbyshire. He was raised in the sixties and grew a passion for music, later becoming a comedy duo with his friend Mark as Eccles and Ritchie.
After the film The Blues Brothers became a hit sensation they included parts of this in their comedy routine before taking the plunge and becoming the Blues Brothers Show, touring the UK.
The Black Rhino Band is one of the UK’s foremost Blues Brothers bands and provides the musical force behind Jake and Elwood. The six-piece band features excellent musicians and the fabulous soul sisters, Jet and Ebony – better known as the Chevettes – provide the backing vocals.
Support band will be The Sensational Soul Band who claim to be the Premier Classic Live Soul & Motown Band. Based in Lincolnshire, they guarantee to fill the dance floor and create a great party atmosphere with the sounds of Stax, Atlantic, Motown and many more great soul labels of the Sixties and Seventies.
The band provide a big soul sound and nostalgia for fans of soul from that period, with a modern influence from Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, The Blues Brothers, The Commitments, Sam & Dave and many more.
