A BLUES band touring its latest album release will call in at Boston tonight (Wednesday).
The Blues Band, which consists of Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Dave Kelly, Gary Fletcher and Rob Townsend, will be performing at Blackfriars Theatre from 7.30pm.
Formed in 1979, they are still performing strongly and have entertainedgenerations of rhythm and blues fans, with more then two and a half decades and 16 albums behind them.
The mostly independent band started by selling bootlegged copies of their first album after the major label which was originally going to release it changed their minds.
The band didn’t have the cash to pay the studio bill so they got 1,000 copies made from a copy tape, signed the plain white numbered sleeves and sold them at gigs and via mail order.
Following that another label picked it up and sold the album widely.
Paul Jones’ creative career has spanned almost 40 years, while Dave Kelly, with late sister Jo-Ann, introduced a whole generation to the works of Memphis Minnie, Son House, Robert Johnson and Mississippi Fred McDowell.
Tom McGuinness was bitten by the blues in the late 1950s and it has never let go, holfing him with the same sharp, tight grip which has Rob Townsend and Gary Fletcher under its spell.
Tickets to the show at the Spain Lane venue are £21.
