A classic film comedy adapted for the stage by Father Ted writer Graham Lineham is coming to Blackfriars Theatre this month.

Performed by award-winning Boston Playgoers, The Ladykillers promises to bring the best of Ealings’ classic film to a local audience.

The adaptation, which recently had a successful run in London’s West End, sees a mastermind criminal and his ruthless gang pit their wits against a sweet little old lady, and her parrot. Pretending to be keen amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent a room in Mrs Wilberforce’s house. From there they plot and carry out a clever heist involving an unsuspecting Mrs Wilberforce.

Will they get away with the loot? Or will Mrs Wilberforce and her trusty parrot General Gordon uncover their dastardly plan?”

Boston Playgoers are well known for their comedies having previously performed plays such as The 39 Steps, Noises Off, and TV comedies such as Fawlty Towers and Vicar of Dibley.

A spokesman for the theatre group said: “The cast includes an architectural consultant, maths teacher and electrician, but don’t let that put you off. This very funny play is sure to entertain.”

The show is on from October 21-24, at 7.30pm. Tickets £10. Call 01205 363108.
