CORONAVIRUS: Staff member at Boston-area joinery firm designs, makes, and installs protective screen for GP surgery in spare time

As the Covid-19 pandemic continued, a member of staff at a joinery business near Boston gave up his free time to design, make, and install a protective screen for a local GP reception area.

Darren Templeman, a production director at George Barnsdale, in Donington, took on the project in response to a call for help from a family member who works at Swineshead Medical Group.

Staff had been struggling to maintain the two-metre, social distancing rule during busier times. Thanks to Darren’s efforts, the counter is now lined with a bespoke curved screen.

This is not the first show of support from the business or its staff since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Earlier in the lockdown period, the company re-deployed its 3D printers to produce parts for visors for frontline NHS staff and others working with Covid-19 patients and the wider public.

Commenting on Darren’s contribution to the GP surgery, a George Barnsdale spokesman said: “Staff are delighted and thankful to Darren and we at George Barnsdale are really proud of what he did.

“Following the recent 3D printing of masks for the NHS, this is another example of the staff’s devotion to the local and national communities it serves.”
