When does Top Gear start?

Top Gear will return to TV screens on Sunday 17 February on BBC Two at 8pm. There will be five episodes in the series and each will last an hour.

Who’s presenting?

The 26th series of Top Gear will be Matt LeBlanc’s last after the former Friends actor announced he was stepping down as host in order to spend more time with his family.

He said in a statement last year: “The time commitment and extensive travel required to present Top Gear takes me away from my family and friends more than I’m comfortable with. It’s unfortunate, but for these reasons I will not be continuing my involvement with the show. I will forever be a Top Gear fan and I wish the team continued success. Thanks for a great drive.”

Harris and Reid will return to the stunt filled motor show. The Stig and Sabine Schmitz will also be on hand to help.

Where has Top Gear been filmed this series?

The world has been Top Gear‘s oyster for this series with filming taking place in Norway, Sri Lanka and Spain. LeBlanc and co will tackle motorised ricksaws in Sri Lanka and will discover the best family estate car with the help of some Norwegian wingsuiters.

Which celebrities will feature in the new series?

The full line up has yet to be revealed but rapper Professor Green and actor James Marsden will both be making an appearance on the show.

When do the new presenters take over?

TV presenter and comedian Paddy McGuinness and former international cricketer Freddie Flintoff  will be taking over when series 27 returns later this year. Harris will stay in the main show, but Reid will be transferred to the sister show, which features behind the scenes footage

Speaking about his excitement at joining the show, McGuinness said in a statement: “I’m thrilled the BBC have given me this opportunity. To be hosting a show I’ve watched and loved from being a small boy is beyond exciting.”

Meanwhile, Flintoff added: “It’s not often you have the chance to do both of your dream jobs, but I’m now lucky enough to say I will have. I’ve always been passionate about cars and I’m so excited to be joining the Top Gear team.”
