The audio-visual Sleaford heritage trail put together by the civic trust and partners has been extended.

The trail has been developed over the past five years and is the result of a collaboration between Sleaford and District Civic Trust, Sleaford Little Theatre, Sleaford Museum Trust and the Sleaford Gallery Arts Trust with help from local historians, and financial support arranged through Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant Communities Power Panel and others.

The trail provides a presentation on visitors’ smartphones which can be accessed by QR codes and NFC chips on plaques close to the heritage properties included in the trail.

The videos are presentations by local actors assuming the role of a former resident of the property. Visitors can join the trail at any site, or simply discover something about an individual building.

Last autumn it was expanded to include Sleaford railway station. Now the team is working on a re-enactment for Sleaford Castle.

Filming by Tin Hat Productions takes place on February 20 at Sleaford Little Theatre. The theme will be a meeting of Robert Carre Snr (owner of the castle) and Robert Carre Jnr (founder of Carre’s school) in 1585.

The video should be available from early March for visitors to the castle site and at www.sleafordheritage.co.uk .

The trusts have produced a free pocket trail map with the backing of Sleaford Town Council to illustrate the trail route, its buildings and history along with instructions on the use of NFC and QR Codes.
