Boston Corporation driver George Gomm, of Kirton, leaped to safety from the cab of his tractor when it sank into an old soft water cistern in 1966.

The vehicle overturned on the approach road to the new bridge set to open off High Street.

With the aid of a crane, Corporation workmen managed to release the tractor.
