With interest in stargazing rocketing the Forestry Commission is following up on its series of sell-out star parties by staging a first ever woodland workshop dedicated to astronomy.

The three hour beginner’s event will be held tomorrow (Saturday 16th February) in 3,000 acre Sherwood Pines Forest Park which offers a dark oasis away from the growing problem of light pollution.

Star parties have been a massive hit in the forest since they began 11 years ago and the latest move will provide a more in-depth introduction to the heavens for eager night-owls.

Ranger Karina Thornton said: “Thanks to people like Brian Cox stargazing has never been more popular and this workshop is squarely aimed at beginners bursting with curiosity.”

Tickets for the 5.30pm event are priced £15 and must be booked in advance by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01623 822447.
