An egg-cellent way for pupils to learn about bike safety

A BIKE awareness event was held at New Leake Primary School with an unusual safety demonstration involving an egg.

Kay Tamen from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership gave a talk to pupils on cycle safety and demonstrated the importance of wearing a cycle helmet. An egg was used to represent a child’s head and subjected to a fall - firstly while protected by a mini helmet and then unprotected - with ‘messy results’.

The event was organised by PCSOs Jayne Richardson and Pete Cobley from the Wainfleet, Spilsby and Burgh Le Marsh Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Some of the older pupils may well be using their bikes when they attend secondary school next September,” explained PCSO Richardson.

She added: “And I think this was a successful way of reinforcing the safety message in a fun and enjoyable way.”
