Dr Peter Holmes has been announced as the new chair of Lincolnshire East Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Dr Holmes, chairman of the Boston Area Locality - one of three localities which make up Lincolnshire East CCG - is a GP practising at Stuart House Surgery, Boston. He takes over from Dr Brynnen Massey, chairman for the last two years, who retired at the end of March.
Dr Holmes said: “I am delighted to have been elected. The CCG has come a long way over the last two years under the leadership of Dr Massey, during a period of considerable change for the NHS.
“CCGs are now taking responsibility for commissioning local healthcare services, including GP medical services, and GPs and other clinicians are taking leading roles.
“The NHS faces significant challenges going forwards. Our main challenge is to enable all of those involved in health and social care to work together, regardless of the organisation they work for, to provide properly joined-up care for our population.
“We also need to encourage people to take a greater role in their own healthcare, particularly in terms of prevention.
“Smoking and obesity are still major issues for us and some people are still reluctant to take up offers of cancer screening.”
Dr Massey led the CCG from its inception in 2013. He said: “Lincolnshire East CCG has developed into an effective commissioning organisation and I am very proud of the progress that has been made in the last two years. I have great confidence in the clinical leaders and managers of the CCG.”
