Boston Stump in £2m bid to become cultural centre

A potential £2 million project aimed at making the Stump a cultural centre as well as a spiritual one is set to launch next week.

On Tuesday a meeting will take place to show members of the public the next stage of its development with a project called A Sacred Space for Everyone.

The project aims to transform the Stump into a ‘centre for cultural learning, heritage interpretation and a place of welcome and hospitality’.

As part of the project it will be looking for an investment of up to £2 million pounds from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Director of Operations Michael Bartlett said: “The church is keen for everyone to support this event as The Stump is the town’s parish church.

“As this major public consultation is launched looking into how the building can grow the ‘Space for Everyone’ team thought it would be a perfect opportunity to consider how the town can also grow, develop and be a better place to live and work in.”

The second half of the meeting will include an open discussion looking for new ideas and vision for the town and seeking ways organisations can work together.

The event is being supported by Boston Mayflower, Boston College, Parish of Boston and Boston Citizens Advice Bureau.

Following the event, the plans for St Botolph’s will be on display in the church from July 17 until September 6.
