THIS year’s Boston Business Awards are set to have the X Factor.

That’s because we can now reveal the guest speaker will be someone who has not only worked on the hit TV show but helped propel bands such as One Direction to worldwide fame.

Mark Hardy is currently strategic planning director at Sony Music, playing a central role in Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment empire, working on shows such as the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. He is responsible for marketing world-reknowned recording artists including Leona Lewis, One Direction and more recently last year’s X Factor winners, Little Mix

Previously, he has worked at The Walt Disney Company and Sony PlayStation.

And it all started here in Boston, where Mark (pictured) grew up and where he often returns to visit family.

“I am thrilled to have been asked to be the guest speaker at this year’s Boston Business Awards – I am delighted to be able to give such a presentation in my home town,” said Mark.

With a First Class degree in Marketing and Advertising, Mark launched his own range of men’s toiletry products to the UK market by the age of 22.

Since then he has worked for a number of international household names in the media, entertainment and lifestyle brand sectors.

As marketing director for Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, he was responsible for the global launch of One Direction – creating mass teenage hysteria and record-breaking chart success, driven primarily by social media and global digital content.

Prior to this, Mark was European marketing director at Sony PlayStation for nine years where he was responsible for brand management of PlayStation 2, PS3 and The PlayStation Network.

During his five years in brand management at The Walt Disney Company, Mark oversaw the UK launch of epic Disney and Pixar releases such as Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life and Monsters Inc.

In his presentation, Mark will explore key characteristics of his experience to date with a specific focus on ‘adapting to changing markets’ and ‘understanding your consumer’.

He said: “In troubled times and with constantly shifting goal posts, the need for any business to adapt quickly is ever-more important.”

The Boston Business Awards presentation evening will be held at the Princess Royal Sports Arena on Thursday, November 15.
