Self-confessed food fanatics at Pinchins’ Family Farm Shop and Tea Rooms are over the moon after scooping several prizes for their business.
Proprietor James Pinchin and his new chef Michelle Bourne, travelled to Newark with their all-fresh products and new ideas for the BPEX Regional Roadshows 2013/14. Judges were so impressed with their products they gave them gold awards for both their very own combination of picnic pie and bacon burgers.
“It was wonderful to win - we really didn’t expect to come away with 10 certificates as there were 345 entries,” said Mr Pinchin.
Their Lincolnshire sausage, chicken and leek pie, home-cured bacon, Scotch egg, black pudding and farmhouse faggot all took silver awards and they also won bronzes for their Lincolnshire pork sausage, ploughman’s sausage and traditional pork pie.
The 10 certificates are now on display at the shop - alongside several more won at other competitions.
At the end of last year, James and wife Henny entered the British Sausage competition coming home with silver for their traditional pork sausage, and a regional gold for their ploughman’s sausage which was judged by chef Simon Rimmer.
Previous wins also include last year’s British Pie Awards - where they scooped three awards, silvers and a bronze, despite competition froma whopping 983 entires.
The business has been running for seven years, but Mr Pinchin said the butchery department has really taken off in the last two years – and credited butchers Bob Cowell and Stephen Brown for their work.
The next award in Henny’s sights is the special category at the Melton Mowbray Pie Awards held later this year, where she is going to have another shot at hitting gold.
The Pinchins’ farm shop is in Church Lane, off the A16 near Sutterton roundabout. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5.30pm, and Sunday from 11am to 3.30pm.
