An independent travel agent in Boston has been placed in the top five for the region and is in with a chance at being named in the top 50 in the UK.
Departure Lounge Travel, in Wide Bargate, has been given as among the five best travel agents in the East of England by TTG Media.
The honour comes as part of the media organisation’s Top 50 scheme, which aims, in its words, to ‘form an influential list of the very best in the business’.
Departure Lounge Travel features as part of a recently announced shortlist for the Top 50 list.
This comprises 20 categories, with five businesses named in each one.
Debby King, manager and director at Departure Lounge Travel, said the team was ‘thrilled’ to be in the shortlist, describing it as a ‘massive achievement’.
She paid tribute to the ‘passion’ of its members, saying: “We put everything into it.”
The Top 50 list will be revealed at a black-tie awards ceremony in March at the Vox Centre at Resorts World, Birmingham.
Three will be selected from the East of England category, which also includes The Co-operative Travel, in Lowestoft, Deben Travel, in Woodbridge, and Travel Stop, Hadleigh, in Suffolk, and Co-operative Travel, in Tiptree, in Essex.
The shortlist is based on the opinions of travel suppliers after agents register to be considered for the list.
The honour comes as the business celebrates its seventh anniversary.
It was set up by four former colleagues at a Boston travel agents which closed months earlier in September 2009. Those four are still there and just under two years ago their number increased to five.
Since opening, Debby said the business has seen its turnover increase every year and she thanked customers for their ‘ongoing support’.
“We are proud to be nominated and we endeavour to continue providing the best service and deals available,” she added.
